Book Review: Republic
(1/5 stars)
“Life-Changingly Mediocre”
I picked up this book expecting enlightenment, wisdom, and maybe a secret formula for success. Instead, I got… 300 pages of the author repeating the same idea in increasingly dramatic fonts. By page 50, I realized I could’ve just read the back cover and saved myself a week of suffering.
The metaphors? So forced they deserve workers’ comp. The advice? “Be yourself, but better.” Wow, revolutionary. Never heard that before. My cat could’ve written a more profound manuscript while sleepwalking across my keyboard.
To be fair, the book did change my life—because I now use it as a coaster. Perfect size for my coffee mug, and it absorbs spills better than it absorbed my attention.
Final verdict: if you like déjà vu on every page and the literary equivalent of lukewarm soup, this masterpiece is for you.
